HOW TO SIGN UP FOR MEETS
Meet sign up sheets will be e-mailed to you as soon as soon as Hopkins receives each swim meet’s information. Meet information will also be available on line at www.hopkinshurricanes.com .
To sign up for a meet, hit reply on the email for the meet you are interested in. Please include the following information in the email reply:
1. Provide all information requested on the meet
sheet including swimmers full name (including middle initial), date of birth,
phone number, and which group your swimmer swims in. All of this information
helps assure that the swimmer is MSI registered to swim in a meet and provides
a way to send out meet confirmations and ask questions that may come up regarding
your entries.
2. Next, find the events available to the swimmer by age and sex.
3. Enter the event number, event description (i.e. 100 free, 50 back) and the
swimmer’s best time.
4. E-mail your completed entry to hopkinsswimclub@gmail.com by the due date
listed on the entry information. Late entries are extremely problematic for
the club VOLUNTEER doing the meet entries and will not guarantee you will be
able to swim at the meet.
5. If your coach has chosen events for you, you may not change those events
without speaking with your coach first. Your coach will NOT sign you up for
something you are not able to do. Believe in yourself!
6. Prior to the swim meet, you will be sent a confirmation letter or e-mail
so you may have the information regarding meet start times, location and events
entered. You may also check on the meets time schedule by calling the MSI information
line at 952-988-4184 or the Hopkins Hotline at 952-498-8988 on the Thursday
or Friday before each meet.
Other information regarding meet entries:
Relays-
Only sign up for individual events. The coaches construct all relays based on
who has entered each meet or session of a meet. The club pays for all relay
fees. Your swimmer will be notified of the relay(s) they will be swimming at
each meet just after warm-ups. Swimmers must be ON TIME for warm-ups in order
to be considered for a relay spot. At every meet, coaches are required to turn
in “relay cards” listing the names and order of each swimmer in
a relay to the timing or entry table. These cards are required to be handed
in 30 minutes before each session starts. This is one reason why ALL swimmers
signed up for that session must be on time. If a swimmer does not show up on
time or does not come to the meet at all to swim in a session that they signed
up for, relays may have to be scratched for the swim meet. When a relay is scratched,
Hopkins swim club looses that money spent on the relay entry and the other swimmers
do not get the opportunity to swim a relay which is very disappointing.
No times – No problem-
If a swimmer does not have a time in 1 or more events, this does not mean he/she
cannot enter the swim meet or a new event. Sometimes a meet entry form may say
“NT entries will not be accepted.” This just means that we must
enter a time on the meet sheet that best fits the swimmer’s ability. If
you do not know what that time would be, discuss it with your coach prior to
the due date on the meet sheet.
The exception to the above is the A-B-C finals, state championship, and zone
swim meets. For these meets, you must have qualifying times in order to participate.
If you have any questions as to whether or not your swimmer has a qualifying
time for one of these final meets, please ask your swim coach.
Mark your calendars early-
At the beginning of each season, you should receive a list of all meets the
Hopkins Swim Club plans to attend. Please mark you calendars as soon as possible
so you can plan on attending these meets. Swimming is unique in that it is an
individual as well as a team sport. Many of the swim meets we attend have team
trophies along with the individual awards. Every swimmer entered in the meet
helps the team earn points towards team trophies. Every swimmer counts so please
come and swim for your team!
